Patio bylaw raises more concerns, questions for City Hall

Editor: Giving more thought to our “street thrones” that appear to be for privileged businesses only, I have some very grave concerns that accompany these City Hall-sanctioned, in my opinion, errors.

Giving more thought to our “street thrones,” I have some very grave concerns that accompany these City Hall-sanctioned, in my opinion, errors.

1) Has City Hall checked where the liability lies in the event of an accident where someone is injured, maimed or killed involving this construction on our taxpayers’ streets? Could the City be sued and the taxpayers left on the hook?

2) Has City Hall checked with the fire chief and the ramifications a patio could cause in the event of a vehicle striking this construction and catching fire?

And in that event, what would happen to the patrons and staff in the building should the front door be blocked as part of this accident?

3) Has City Hall checked with the fire chief into the ramifications regarding the lack of proper access to the buildings in the event of fire in the buildings behind or beside this construction?

4) And has City Hall given consideration to make these street thrones be wheelchair accessible? If not, why not?

5) Seems to me Williams Lake’s Rick Hansen, a native son, has shown the world how to treat all people and there is no condition or situation that cannot be overcome. Is Williams Lake City Hall on the same page?
