Party’s silviculture record subpar

MLA Donna Barnett weighed in on the forest industry in the May 2 Tribune.

Editor:

MLA Donna Barnett weighed in on the forest industry in the May 2 Tribune.

She did not weigh in on her government’s silviculture record.

In 2007 there were 275 million seedlings planted in our provincial forest lands. In 2010 the number was down to 180 million seedlings — approximately two thirds of the 2007 number.

In 2011 the number was lower still — lower than any previous year the Liberals have managed B.C.’s public forests. This is clearly not sufficient investment in the future of what could be a sustainable resource for future generations.

Why has Barnett chosen not to speak about these numbers?
