In response to Doug Wilson’s letter regarding corporate tax rates:

There are serious flaws in Mr. Wilson’s argument that it would be harmful to raise the corporate tax rate.

First, there is absolutely no evidence that higher corporate taxes, or higher taxes for the wealthiest one per cent of the population, would drive away investment.

Rather, the Conservative and provincial Liberal government systematic reduction in corporate taxes (already some of the lowest in the western world) has instead resulted in record government deficits at a time when resource revenues to the corporate sector have been at an all-time high.

On the other hand, there is very good evidence that the conditions created by increased government spending on health care, education, and protection of the environment, will attract business and capital to an area because of better living conditions for workers.

Combine this with Canada’s and British Columbia’s unequalled resources and you have a recipe for government surpluses, reduced debt, and a happier society.
