New cookbook to feature local ranches and families

Now, 12 days into 2012 I hope you’re managing to stick to whatever path your New Year’s resolutions (rash or courageous?) set you on.

Happy New Year! Now, 12 days into 2012 I hope you’re managing to stick to whatever path your New Year’s resolutions (rash or courageous?) set you on.

I don’t do midnight, nor make promises to myself (anyone else) that I may be unable to keep.

This year, however, I did make a tiny note-to-self that I should be kinder to me, simply by having the courage (difficult) to just say “no” every now and again.

I receive many queries for photos (assistance) and am generally happy to help, but the volume has burgeoned to the point that my own life was suffering from the time consumed!

Now (ha, ha, couldn’t say “no”) I am involved in a new project! I am a member of the Cariboo Cattlemen’s Association, public affairs and education committee and we have a new cookbook in the works which will feature local ranches/ranch families.

In the book, each contributing ranch/family will be allotted two pages,  one for a recipe (avoid real long recipes), then the facing page for a photo, plus a short history of their family/ranch.

Once complete, the cookbook will be offered for sale (all funds back to CCA/public affairs/education — in support of agricultural projects/education/industry support) to the general public.

So, if you (or your family) live/ranch within the region (served by the Cariboo Cattlemen’s Association) and would like to participate, please submit a recipe (send a few, all may not be used), a photograph of your ranch/your family/ancestor (preferably a quality scan on CD or a good paper copy — photos/CDs will not be returned, so do not send originals — and a short story/history of your farm/ranch/family (300 words or less).

Please include your name, address, telephone number, and/or e-mail address.

Send to Liz Twan, Box 37, Alkali Lake, B.C., V0L 1B0. Anyone with any questions can call 250-440-5605.

The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2012.
