As the fall session winds down in Victoria, it’s clear the NDP failed to take action on the pressing issues facing our province.

The session began with the government introducing its long-anticipated emergency and disaster management legislation. As the BC United Shadow Minister for Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, I had the chance to respond to the bill. Unfortunately, the NDP’s bill represents a missed opportunity as it does not facilitate quicker recovery for those displaced from their homes and leaves the same existing gaps with disaster financial assistance and compensation.

The NDP’s failures continued throughout the session.

Last month our BC United Caucus exposed the NDP’s CleanBC scheme. According to the government’s own data, the ‘Cost BC’ plan will shrink the economy by $28 billion over the next 10 years, kill over 200,00 jobs, and lead to a nearly $3 billion revenue loss for healthcare and other critical services.

The NDP’s record in cancer care is not any better. Six months ago, the NDP unveiled a plan to send over 50 cancer patients a week to the United States for treatment. Now, government documents reveal the NDP has only sent an average of 12 patients a week to the U.S. for treatment. In total, only 14 patients from Northern Health and zero from Interior Health have received treatment in the U.S.

In contrast to the NDP’s failures, our BC United Caucus introduced a bold series of policy commitments to provide immediate relief to British Columbians — including our plan to permanently eliminate the provincial fuel tax and remove the carbon tax on all home heating fuels.

Additionally, we will scrap the NDP’s CostBC plan and replace it with common sense measures that will grow the economy while reducing emissions.

While David Eby and the NDP prioritize flashy announcements and photo-ops our BC United team is committed to delivering real results and restoring a bright future for British Columbia.
