Letters: Democracy, or something else entirely

NDP leader John Horgan spoke about giving the First Nations a right to veto new Natural Resource Projects.

At the last Union of BC Municipalities, NDP leader John Horgan spoke about giving the First Nations a right to veto new Natural Resource Projects.

If a democracy has a group in it that has veto powers, then it is not a democracy anymore.

Maybe John should consider giving veto powers to Indo and Chinese Canadians as well and maybe any other minority group that thinks that they have a right to intercede when new projects aren’t to their liking.

There is no doubt that First Nations are partners in the development of new projects, but an outright veto is getting pretty extreme.

A veto is a dangerous precedence and doesn’t fit well in a democracy.

I hope he comes to his senses before the next provincial election or that his party are not victorious.
