Racism hurts everyone, including this elderly man who has a low opinion of others.

Letters to the editor.

Editor:

On May 6, my husband and I went to a business to renew our vehicle insurance.

We went in and took a seat because there was an elderly man waiting in line.

As we sat there, the fellow started pacing in front of us, staring at us, then he finally stopped in front of us and said “Do the First Nations pay your insurance?”

I replied, “No, we work like everyone else and pay for our own insurance.”

He looked at us a few minutes then said, “I guess your chief spends too much money, why he can’t afford to pay for your insurance.”

True reconciliation will never happen as long as there are still people who are racist and stereotype every First Nation person they see.

It is the 21st century and there are still people out there who think that First Nations people get everything for free and that is very sad.

Racism hurts everyone, including this elderly man who has a low opinion of others.
