Kids Running for Kids an inspiration

I would like to share with you the story of some very inspired constituents of mine.

This week I would like to share with you the story of some very inspired constituents of mine who are participating in a self-organized fundraiser for the BC Children’s Hospital — they call themselves Kids Running For Kids.

Kids Running For Kids is a group of more than 70 youth ages six to 18 who will run relay style from Williams Lake to Vancouver this summer to raise funds for the BC Children’s Hospital.

The kids will take turns running five-kilometre intervals starting June 30 and are slated to finish July 7.

Many of the children in the group have either used the hospital themselves or know others who have.

Siblings Dylan Passeri, Jaxon Passeri and Caen Passeri from Williams Lake have had four of their cousins spend a lot of time in the Children’s Hospital and are keen to give back.

“We just want to help out other kids who haven’t been as lucky as us,” said Dylan Passeri.

The Passeri family sees this as an excellent opportunity to give back to something that has helped their family so much.

“We really hope people will believe in this as much as we do,” Jaxon said.

And I’d love nothing more than to see all of the Cariboo-Chilcotin get involved in this wonderful effort.

So far this has turned into a shining example of a community coming together for a good cause.

The Williams Lake Ford dealership has generously donated a van to transport the kids from the camp to their leg of the run.

Various businesses have already made impressive cash donations and the kids have utilized other fundraising methods such as bottle drives and an upcoming prize raffle.

They’ve almost reached $10,000 in funds raised but still need your help to reach their goal of $25,000.

Please pay attention to local newspapers and radio stations for more upcoming fundraisers and you can e-mail kidsrunningforkids@gmail.com if you have any questions or would like to donate.

Donna Barnett is the Liberal MLA for the Cariboo-Chilcotin.
