It is interesting to note that Christy Clark’s new cabinet, it was briefly mentioned, includes new health minister Mike de Jong.
This ministry affects all populations of the province and is in dire straits.
When seniors need to be admitted to a health-care facility for extended care and there isn’t a space available except in acute-care facilities, or at home with care workers who provide little needed help, this is unacceptable.
There is a shift in population making seniors, who are our elders, the increasing numbers.
Politicians who do not realize this are at their own peril, as it is seniors who vote in numbers, it is seniors who have their offspring — having to provide assistance in their aging process — and it is seniors who are living longer years.
Providing affordable care is imperative.
These facilities provide workers, taxpayers, and health-care providers who help all of those in their waning years.
It is the provincial and federal governments that must address this requirement.
