School began the 2024 -2025 year on Tuesday. Welcome to the district’s new Superintendent Cheryl Lenardon who has stepped up from Assistant Superintendent. And, Tuesday was a big day for the little people who are beginning their school careers, for the students moving from Grade 6 in their home schools to Grade 7 at Columneeza Junior Secondary, and for those “graduating” to Grade 10 at Lake City Senior Secondary.
One “new’ school event wasn’t too popular—the planned change in school bus routes. Let’s hope that gets resolved to caucus everyone’s satisfaction.

Kevin Falcon, leader of B.C.’s opposition United Party, was the newsmaker last week when he announced he was stepping down from the upcoming provincial election and supporting John Rustad’s Conservatives. His move astonished many, including, it seems, some members of his party and caucus.
Mr. Falcon and Mr. Rustad were not friends. Two years ago, Falcon turfed Rustad from what was then the BC Liberal Party caucus because he didn’t agree with the party’s stance on Climate Change. The two rejected a merger last May and they’ve been cutting each other down ever since- — as recently as last week. Then, out of the blue, on Wednesday last week, Mr. Falcon made his big announcement, all love and kisses with Mr. Rustad.
The Conservatives are considered to be right-wing, the United Party more in the middle, with the NDP of course on the left side of the political spectrum. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. What will the current United MLAs do? Where will the “centrist” voters go? Will the Greens benefit from the new arrangement? They can’t like Mr. Rustad’s attitude on the environment but maybe he’ll change it.
Whatever, the news in the next seven weeks should keep the political junkies busy.
