It’s November already. Not my favourite month. Usually it’s dull and dowdy coming after the colourful September and October. This year is a bit different. Autumn is late, and as I write this there are leaves still to fall and geese and ducks still hanging around on their way south. The days are getting shorter. The countryside is getting ready for winter, but some people don’t have winter tires on their cars yet.

So what’s different from last year? Not much except the weather. Last year, on November 4, I wrote; “As if war threats,

climate change disasters, and the COVID pandemic aren’t bad enough, the cost of living is sky-rocketting. The price of food is the latest worry, and it appears things will get worse instead of better. “

The pleasant October might have fooled us but none of those troubles have been fixed. Many of them are fixable if we’d work together instead of being disagreeable with each other. An act of kindness can go a long way. Like many others, I’ve found the daily news depressing and was turning into a Grumpy Granny.

Last week a friend and I had planned on going to the Gecko Tree to say goodbye, but dozens of others had the same idea and we were too late. We lunched at Mojos instead and I was muttering about missing the Gecko when the waitress delivered our meal. She told us it had been paid for by a customer who’d left already. That was a first for both friend and I.

I’d like to thank the giver not only for the meal, but for brightening our day. We’ll pass it on.

If we were all kind to each other what a wonderful world it would be.
