I thought this was the quote of the week.
“The best way for Americans to avoid rapists and criminals in the country is not to elect one as president.” Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
That was until I heard this one.
“Without the U.S., Canada doesn’t really have a country.” U.S. President Donald Trump.
The threats (promises?) to take over our country keep coming across the border. It’s difficult to make plans to resist when we don’t know what’s coming next, and as we cope with President Trump's announcements, another issue is falling off the political agenda. While U.S. tariffs could bring disaster to Canada, Climate Change is already causing disasters all over the country, no end in sight.
No one can convince me the climate isn’t changing. If the scientific evidence doesn’t convince us, our personal experiences should. Nature is doing a good job of changing the climate on her own, we humans are doing our best to hurry things along.
I came to the Cariboo from the Coast in the fall of 1951. The weather was great, the landscape breathtakingly beautiful.
Nobody prepared me for the 40, even 60 degree below zero weather that was coming. Many/most of my readers aren’t old enough to remember.
Back then there were no conveniences in the rural areas, no plug-ins for vehicles, no indoor plumbing, and you had to get up in the night to put wood in the stove to keep the house from freezing. We’re only starting now to recognize that every year is warmer than the last one.
As Canadians, we have to find ways to work together to keep our country from being overwhelmed.
That means protecting our economy, our sovereignty, and our environment.
We need to Keep Canada Great. Not an easy task.
