Big news last week was the death of former U.S. president Jimmy Carter. I can’t resist noting the contrast between Carter and Donald Trump. Carter was everything Trump isn’t, a gentleman for one thing, and he was scandal free. He was president only once but he spent the rest of his very long life helping people in many ways.
He believed passionately that humans could create civil societies that would prevail over brutality, humanity over inhumanity. He not only saw the good in others, he practiced the good himself. He may not have the best president America has ever had, but he was one of kindest.
Donald Trump is not only talking of taking over Canada, he wants to chose who will be the govern the 51st state. Wayne Gretsky declined, who will be his next choice? Christy Clark?

Williams Lake enters 2025 still not knowing the fate of Atlantic Power. If it goes, $1 million of taxes goes with it, plus good jobs and a good community supporter. A ray of hope is that Glen Clark is now running the show at BC Hydro.
What will he do? The government says Clark brings “extensive leadership, corporate relations and resource development experience to the position.” Indeed he does. He was B.C.’s premier from 1996 to 1999.
He resigned when he was charged with accepting favours. The charges were dropped. He was hired soon after by Jimmy Pattison, B.C.’s most successful businessman. According to reports, the Pattison Group has 60,000 employees in 97 countries, and earns $16 billion annually. Clark retired after 22 years with the Group. He served as president, the last 10 years as chief operating officer. He has remained on the board of several Pattison companies. He should be able to handle BC Hydro.
