We live under sociopathic conditions. Few people appear aware/acknowledge our predicament.
Colossal unmitigated GHGs from a globalized fossil-fuel energy industry and consequent irreversible global warming is one anti-social market based on social disregard.
Taseko’s proposed New Prosperity Mine at Tez-tan Biny is another example of shameless intrusive anti-social marketing. Proponents minimize adverse social and environmental effects as minor and hardly noticeable in the “big” economic picture. “Me” devotees spin adverse social and environmental effects as “good” for the common wealth.
Question the assumption that bigger/larger is always better. Taseko promotes Gibraltar Mine as the second biggest open pit mines in Canada. Taseko proposes New Prosperity Mine to be one of the “largest” open pit mines in Canada.
Will New Prosperity’s tailings “lake” be five times bigger/larger than Williams Lake? A possible tailing dam 40 stories high and seven kilometers long? That “grandiose” scheme would be achieved without consensus of the people who live in Nemiah.
Would “uncorrupted” democracy protect minority “rights” from tyranny of majority “might?”
MLA Donna Barnett writes in a letter filed with the Federal Assessment Panel, “Without approval for Prosperity Mine, the future of the Cariboo-Chilcotin is bleak.”
Mayor Kerry Cook and city council hold similar views. “Bleak” is fearful where economic power matters most.
“Success” of New Prosperity Mine will show disregard of social interests. Democracy demands social, economic, and political equality for all.
Milton Friedman over-rides social interest for “freedom” of private interest. We are provided further evidence of sham democratic liberty and justice for all.
Debunking alarm sounds to awake from apathy. The choice is between moribund oligarchy, plutocracy, aristocracy for a few or an active sustainable democracy for all. The global sociopathic marketplace is killing us. This sociopathic condition/predicament is leading to a “bleak” early human grave.
