In spite of two federal rejections and considerable opposition from the Tsilhqot’in National Government (TNG) and other groups and individuals, Taseko Mines Ltd. (TML) persists in proceeding with plans for the New Prosperity Mine.

In the latest round, BC’s Supreme Court granted an injunction preventing TML from drilling, excavating and building trails and seismic lines in the Fish Lake area until the court rules on TNG’s legal challenge to the permit to drill, which was issued by the outgoing Liberal government in their last days of office.

Charlie Smith, reporting in the Straight on June 27, noted the BC Liberal Party received more than $135,000 from Taseko Mines since 2008.

He didn’t say if the NDP got anything.

Believe it or not …

On the environmental scene, recent research says global temperature rises could be double those predicted by past climate modelling, and sea levels could rise by six metres or more even if the two degree target of the Paris Accord is met.

Warming events suggest the climate models failed to capture true warming under the “business-as-usual” scenario, according to The Guardian. Meantime, people are dying from killer heat in Quebec, and killer floods in Japan.

On the economic scene, Scotiabank Economics says Alberta and B.C. are forecast to lead growth across Canada in both 2018 and 2019 amidst a country-wide expansion in all 10 provinces.

And, according to latest Canada stats, B.C.’s employment rate continues to be one of the best in Canada.
