City council should adopt Kamloops’ budget meeting structure

As we start in 2012 in earnest — Williams Lake city council (if they haven’t already) will begin their 2012 budget discussions very soon.

Open letter to mayor/council:

As we start in 2012 in earnest — Williams Lake city council (if they haven’t already) will begin their 2012 budget discussions very soon.

Kamloops city council, at its Jan. 10th meeting, approved a new public engagement structure so there would be three meetings whereupon city staff department heads would present their departmental budgets to mayor/council and public at the same time and roundtables held at the same meetings chaired by a city councillor.

After these meetings Kamloops city council would then proceed to complete its usual budget meetings, which are open to the public to observe.

I openly ask Williams Lake council to consider doing the same here as I believe there is time to do this …  and if not 2012, then in 2013.

At the very least it may spark debate about how the city spends/collect tax dollars and will allow for a holistic public engagement exercise around the City of Williams Lake’s 2012 budget and future city budgets.
