Two of the respondents to this question (What makes you proud to be a Canadian?) in last week’s Question of the Week stated that they were proud not to be American.
What negative comments! Were they unable to think of even one positive aspect of being Canadian? Such things as health care, justice, education, freedom of expression come to mind, and especially, the compassion of her citizens for others in times of trouble.
If we believe in ourselves and in our country, it is not necessary to define ourselves only by comparison to others.
