Wood Lloyd

April 26, 2002

On Friday, April 26, 2002 Lloyd Wood passed away peacefully at the home of his stepdaughter Ruth MacDonald. He was 72 years old.

Lloyd was born in Linden, Nova Scotia on February 4, 1930. He was one of 10 children.

His folks were farming people and Lloyd learned early what it meant to work hard, fix machines, fences, and barns.

It was on the farm that Lloyd developed his love for soil and all it can produce. After he left the family farm, Lloyd tried logging and spent many years the business.

In 1971 he came to B.C. to visit a friend, Greeta Stults, and instantly fell in love with B.C. and the opportunities in the forest industry. He never left.

In 1972 Greeta introduced him to Mildred Roberts who became the love of his life. In 1974 they married.

In 1983 Lloyd and Mildred moved to Williams Lake because Lloyd got a job with School District 27, first of all working the grounds and later as a custodian.

Although Lloyd lost Mildred in 1995, only months after he retired, Mildred blessed him with 10 wonderful step-children.

In 1997 Lloyd discovered another passion -- bowling. He resisted when his buddy Emil Wendell tried to get him to give it a try. But when he finally did he was hooked. He also loved all wild animals, from deer to hummingbirds.

He always had many hummingbirds at his feeder. He loved to garden and his favourite crop was his summer savory.

Lloyd was a man of few words. Everyone knew him in this way. Very seldom did Lloyd get on a talking streak. He preferred to hang back and let others do the talking.

He was predeceased by his wife Mildred and brothers Merton and George. He is loved and survived by his sisters Lillian Smith (Linden, N.S.), Florence Sonier (Amherst, N.S.), Minnie Coates (Amherst, N.S.), Edna Card (Amherst, N.S.), Doris Marshall (Oxford, N.S.), Blanche (Douglas) Smith (Amherst, N.S., Marguerite (Arthur) Hodgson (Collingsworth, N.S.)

He is also survived by 23 nieces and nephews. And he is survived by his step family: Allan, Caren (Gary), Ruth (Eric), and Everett (Helen), Lisette, Janet (Al), Doreen (Harry) all in B.C., Brenda (George), in Prince Edward Island; Sandra (Rick) in Ontario; Peter (Jean) in Nova Scotia. He is also survived by numerous step grandchildren.

A memorial service was held May 3, 2002 at the Senior Citizen’s Centre. The arrangements were entrusted to La Prairie’s Alternative Funeral Services in Williams Lake.
