Thelma Matt

Thelma Mary Matt passed away peacefully on December 18, 2003 at Cariboo Memorial Hospital at the age of 81.

Thelma was born in Whitewood, Saskatchewan September 22, 1921 and was raised in Love Siding, Saskatchewan.

She married her husband Harold in 1940 and they moved to Telkwa B.C. in the late 1940s and then in 1963 came to live in Williams Lake where Harold worked for West Fraser Timber Mills.

Thelma worked in the food and service industry and later devoted her time to volunteer work.

She gave her time to the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Branch 139, the Canadian Cancer Society and various other organizations.

Thelma is survived by her four children, Calvin (Pauline), Beverly Ilnicki (Allan), Rose Pinchbeck (Ian), Doug (Harold); seven grandchildren, Shane (Carolyn), Christie, Roxanne (Derek), Coralie (Shane), Rodney (Cheryl), Aaron (Lori-Anne), Deanne (Mike); six great-grandchildren, Brenden, Brody, Kyler, Kiana, Cordell, Conway; half siblings, Jeannette (Dale), Larry (Hazel).

She was predeceased by her husband Harold in 1980, and brother Angus in 1982.

Thelma had been battling her illnesses over the past several years.

The family appreciates Dr. Hicks for his dedication and care, the nurses at Cariboo Memorial Hospital and especially the home support workers for their kindness, compassion and service to Thelma in her times of need.

As well to her friends whose company she always enjoyed and for them being there when she called.

Funeral services were held on Monday, December 22, 2003 at Sacred Heart Parish.

The seven grandchildren acted as pallbearers and Rod Pinchbeck, grandson, said a fond farewell to his Grandma by delivering the eulogy.

A tea followed at the Royal Canadian Legion lower hall.

If desired, donations can be made to the Cariboo Foundation Hospital Fund for the purchase of a CT scanner.

The family appreciates the service arranged by Luc LaPrairie and the kind words, food flowers, cards and donations from family and friends. They were very appreciated during this difficult time.
