February 24, 1931 - January 4, 2022
In loving memory ~
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mom Tillie, January 4th 2022 at the age of 90. Tillie was born in Cumberland BC February 24,1931, the youngest child of Fraser and Alice Watson.
She moved to Vancouver in her early twenties and worked at Woodwards. It was there that she was introduced to Tommy Madison by his mother and they were married in 1951.
Tommy was living and working in Williams Lake and brought his new bride to a small cabin on the Dog Creek Road. She loved telling stories about Williams Lake in those days with the wooden sidewalks, living on moose meat and washing clothes on the porch with a wringer washer. Life was tough, but they loved Williams Lake and it didn't take long for them to become established.
They soon moved to Yorston Street and Tillie found work at Overwaitea. Tommy established Madison Transport, coached and was the Manager of the Williams Lake Stampeders Hockey Team. Tommy and Tillie loved to travel. Tommy and Tillie were blessed with two children Michael born 1955 and Toni in 1956. Tommy passed away in 1967, and sadly Toni in 2006. .
Tillie met John Knowles in 1971 and they were married December 31st of that year. John had six children. Trish, Peg (Larry), Lorraine (Tim), Kim, Tim and Barb.
Tillie and John spent many happy times camping, fishing, traveling and enjoying summers at their second home at Lac La Hache. They also had great times in the winter snowmobiling at La Lac Hache and surrounding areas with their friends.
Tillie was so proud that with her blended family she had 8 children, 23 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
Tillie was an avid curler and bowler in the sixties. She joined curves in her seventies and was very proud of achieving over 3,000 workouts. She was a dedicated member of the Legion, Williams Lake Senior Activity Centre and a life time member of the OAPO. Tillie dedicated numerous hours of volunteering for the Senior Centre, Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Tillie has many good friends and enjoyed visiting, going for coffee and lunch with them. Always willing to help if needed. Spaghetti Night at the Legion with "The Girls" (you know who you are and thanks) was one of the highlights of her week.
The family would like to sincerely thank mom's doctors, the staff at both the Williams Lake Senior Village and the Deni House for the wonderful care you provided.
Due to weather and restrictions, there was no funeral but a celebration of Tillie's life will be held for her family and friends at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please make the time to reach out to your elderly relatives and friends, even if it is a quick call to say hello. It means so very much to them.
