Shirley Vanderburgh passed away at the age of 78 after a lengthy struggle with cancer. Shirley died peacefully, at home, with her family at her side.

Alan and Shirley celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this July and, as mother to Cathy (Peter), Barbara (Dick), David (Margaret), Eileen and Ken (Gwynneth), grandma to Eric (Jenna), John, Garrett, Michael, Margarete, Elizabeth, Emma, Justin and William – and to her delight, new great-grandmother to Archer, she was the heart of our family. She loved large gatherings with family and friends – and they loved to attend, particularly if Shirley’s fabulous pies or butter tarts were on the menu.

She was born in Crowland Township, Ontario. Shirley was predeceased by her father Albert Robins, mother Sarah Robins and her brothers James and Tom. She leaves behind her sisters Helen, Barbara and Eva, brothers Charles and David, and their families.

Shirley was a gifted and award-winning quilter. Her quilts and wall hangings adorn the homes of her family and friends and are a daily reminder of her love and talents.

Details of a memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Cariboo Memorial Hospital Foundation, the BC Cancer Foundation, or the Canadian Red Cross in her memory.
