February 27, 1918 - August 30, 2021
With much love, we remember our amazing Mom, Granny and GG, Ruth Lord, who passed away peacefully on August 30, 2021. Ruth was born February 27th,1918 in Port Coquitlam, BC. She was the oldest child with five younger siblings. Growing up in Vancouver during the depression, Ruth helped support her family. She trained as a stenographer after which she got her first job teaching at the school she graduated from. Then in the late 1930s, Ruth acquired a job with an Outfitter and set out by boat for Telegraph Creek. On the boat she met Arthur Lord. They were married on July 19,1941. They moved to Atlin, BC where Art was a gold miner. Ruth took care of their home and cultivated her first garden and discovered her love for gardening. Ruth loved children. Unable to have their own, Ruth and Art adopted three babies Graeme in 1948, Heather in 1950 and Janice in 1953. She was an amazing mom continually reminding her kids how much they were loved. Through the years the family moved to various places in BC following Art's employment. Ruth remained busy raising kids, running boarding houses and mastering her gardening techniques. After raising her family, Ruth taught Business Communications and Office Procedures at Cariboo College in Williams Lake. Ruth and Art retired to Horsefly in the 1980s then moved to Maple Ridge. After Art passed away in 1992, Ruth embraced her passion for travel. She joined travel groups and ventured to Australia, Malaysia, England, and Ireland as well as enjoying bus tours in the US and Canada including the Grand Canyon and up to Tuktoyaktuk! Ruth looked after people and on many of her travels she often took her travel partner under her wing and looked after them even when they were significantly younger than she! Reading was also a passion for mom. She always told us reading and learning keeps your mind young rewarding you with a long life. It seems those words were prophetic as she lived to 103! Mom was a compassionate spirit who always looked out for others. Her warm heart, kind words, smile and hugs will sorely be missed. She is predeceased by her parents, 5 siblings, husband, and son. She leaves behind her two daughters, a daughter-in-law, 5 granddaughters and 6 great grandchildren.
