Richard (Dick) Blackall

BLACKALL – Richard “Dick” passed away with his family by his side on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at the age of 85. Survived by his loving family, two sons, O’Brian (Shelley) of Charlie Lake, BC and Dennis (Janis) of Kelowna, BC, six grandchildren, Stephanie (Corey) Peters (and great granddaughter Emily), Brittany, Chelsea and Kaitlyn Blackall, Nicole and Haley Blackall. He is also survived by his sister Ruth Menard of Kelowna, brothers Phil (Betty) of Enderby, Art (Mina) of Kamloops, and numerous nieces and nephews. Dick was predeceased by his loving wife Ada (1996).

Dick was born on July 11th, 1923 in Tisdale Saskatchewan where he lived until he enlisted in the army for service overseas. He married Ada Frey, his loving companion of over 50 years, in 1946 and they lived in Vancouver, Mission, 100 Mile House, Williams Lake and Penticton. He enjoyed various careers throughout his lifetime, some of which included working in the forest industry, transmission line construction and many years of service with Canada Post, where he especially enjoyed visiting the many people he met. Dick loved the outdoors, including hunting and fishing, which he enjoyed with his sons, brothers and many friends. His granddaughters will miss the many stories and the teasing that Grandpa entertained them with over the years. The family wishes to express its sincere thanks to the staff at the Village at Smith Creek and the Kelowna General Hospital for their excellent care during his time with them.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 11:30 am at First Lutheran Church, 4091 Lakeshore Road, Kelowna, with Reverend Keith Reisdorf officiating. Cremation with interment to follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Penticton at a later date.
