July 2, 2005

Ralph James Rodger, son of Melville G. Rodger of Watson’s Corners, Ontario, died peacefully at home Saturday, July 2, 2005 with Fern, his loving wife of 60 years, at his side.

Ralph will be missed by his wife Fern Alberta Cunningham Rodger, children Lynne (Dave) Taylor, Wendy (Kent) Dooley, Karen (Michael Cordick) Rodger, Shawn-Marie (Darren) Seminoff, Kirk (Selena) Rodger, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Born February 5, 1923, Corporal Rodger served in the Second World War with the Number 9 CMU (communications). Upon discharge Ralph and Fern relocated to 150 Mile House. Ralph was first employed at the General Store and then began his career in telecommunications first with Dominion Government Telegraph and then with B.C. Telephone where he worked 32 years until his retirement in Campbell River in 1985.

Wherever Ralph lived he generously worked to serve his community. In 150 Mile House he was volunteer director of the Lac La Hache Youth Camp. In Williams Lake he served as president of the Williams Lake Curling club and supported St. James United Church. In Campbell River Ralph coached the Junior Girl’s Baseball team. In Comox and Courtenay Ralph extensively supported Citizens on Patrol and The Filberg Senior’s Centre.

Ralph was an avid fishing and hunting companion and shared his passion for the out-of-doors with his extensive family.

Ralph, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend will be greatly missed.

Deep gratitude is extended to Dr. Reggler for his profoundly compassionate at-home care. Also the home support nurses provide indispensable care and support.

At Ralph’s request there will be no service, but rather a celebration of his life will be held at Fern’s home Saturday, July 9, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. In Ralph’s memory donations may be made to the Lung Association of B.C, 2675 Oak St., Vancouver, B.C.
