In Loving Memory ~
Peter Verner Epp was born on October 20, 1931, in Superb, SK to Peter Peter Epp and Susanna Marie Siemens Epp. The family moved to Vancouver, and then to Chilliwack. Peter left school to help during the 1948 Sumas floods, working as a foreman at the family berry and poultry farm and, later, the San Jose Cattle Co., the Ministry of Highways, and the Williams Lake School District, among others.
He married Marianne Gail Fletcher on May 15, 1959, at her father's 144 Mile Ranch near Williams Lake and had three children between 1960-1964. He became a devoted Christian early in his marriage and delighted in helping people about town, sharing Werther's and taking cookies to prayer meetings and the Stampede chapel in later years.
Peter advocated for Williams Lake revitalization by showcasing Cariboo heritage and wrote numerous letters to the editor invariably signed "From an Old Cowboy." He served as President of the South Lakeside Ratepayers and Residents Association in the 1980s. He remained active and independent into his 90s, climbing ladders to install window covers on the second floor of his home the week before his death.
In the early hours of July 10, 2024, Peter Verner Epp died peacefully in his sleep at home.
In Peter's words, "I think all you can honestly say about me is for over 50 years plus, I was looking for the Lord to come and I did not fit in this world. I'm just passing through."
A private ceremony was held at Chilliwack Cemeteries, as per his wishes. If friends so desire, donations may be directed to Gideons International.
Peter is survived by his sister, Susie Dyck, brother John Epp, his children Peter Epp, Sandra Wiggins, and Donna Froese and their spouses, 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
