Patricia Lee Johnson, of Grande Prairie, AB, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 1, 2016, at the Grande Prairie Care Centre, at the age of 62 years.

Patricia Lee Johnson was born in New Westminster, BC on November 26, 1953, the second child of Lawrence and Kathleen Elderkin. Her younger years were spent in the Vancouver area. She married Grant Johnson in 1971, at the age of 17. Their children, Jennifer and Mindy were born while they resided in the Fraser Lake area. They moved to Williams Lake and raised their daughters, later divorcing in 1994.

Patricia moved to Alberta and began working with her sister in-law, Lavinia Johnson cooking in camps. There, she met her best friend and life partner, Larry Maruno. They moved to Cold Lake where she enjoyed their acreage, taking care of some cattle and tending to her beautiful yard. Larry and Patricia settled in Grande Prairie in 2011. Here, Patricia joined Rose Williams in a cleaning venture for new developments. In June of 2014, Patricia was diagnosed with an incurable lung cancer and began her incredible journey. She showed her family and friends her amazing strength, courage and spirit, and the power of her will and mind. She defied the odds over and over, finally succumbing to the disease.

Patricia will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her husband Larry Maruno; children: Jennifer Johnson (Roy Blatchford) of Williams Lake, BC, Mindy Johnson of Red Deer, AB. and Sherry (Kevin) Gilbert; grandchildren: Jason, Chiara and Keagan of Eastend, SK. and Nicholas (Julie-Vanessa) Maruno and grandson Ryker, Lethbridge, AB. She will also be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her siblings: Anne Gerhardi, Gerald (Michelle) Elderkin, several nieces, nephews and their families.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at 11:00am at Oliver’s Funeral Home, Grande Prairie, AB (10005 107 Ave.)
