Nicholas was born on September 28, 1931 at Cimahi, Java and passed away June 15, 2013, after a two and a half year illness. He was predeceased by his brother Johan Dormaar, PhD of Lethbridge, AB. Nicholas is survived by his wife of 56 years, N. Johanna Dormaar and their three sons Michael, Brent and Roy.
Nicholas was born in the Dutch East Indies to a military family. From age 3 to 5 the family lived in Montreux, Switzerland and from 5 to 25 he lived in The Netherlands, including the war years. In 1955, he obtained his MD in Groningen. Nicholas and Johanna married in Groningen in 1957, following which they emigrated to Vancouver. He carried out most of his career as a general practitioner in
and around Williams Lake. Nicolas retired to Vancouver Island in 1996.
