Michal (Mark) Bednarz

October 10, 1920 - February 20, 2010

Michal passed away peacefully at the Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake, B.C. surrounded by his family. Michal is survived by his two sons Larry (Linda), Wyatt (Gail) and his grandchildren Bradley and Amanda.

He was a man of simple means, strong character, perseverance and integrity. He grew up the youngest of six kids and learned the responsibility of family and very hard work on the homestead in rural Manitoba during the “hungry 30’s”. He worked where the work took him in Manitoba, Ontario and NWT.

He met his wife, Ursula, from Germany as a pen pal in 1955 when he was working in the NWT and they married in 1956 and moved to Elliot Lake, Ontario where his two sons, Larry and Wyatt were born. After 13 years he moved his family to Victoria, B.C. where he worked as a carpenter till he moved to Williams Lake in 2004 after Ursula passed away.

He was always eager to share “all” the stories of “those days” with anyone willing to listen to them. The strength he showed us in the face of what life threw his way, inspired his friends and family to keep on going no matter what. We are going to miss that little “smile” when he showed us his latest great deal. Thanks for being our Dad, Grandpa and friend.

We would like to thank Dr. Jessen and all the hospital staff for their compassion in caring for Michal.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Michal’s name to the Hough Memorial Cancer Fund Society. www.houghmemorial.org
