March 7, 1948 - June 28, 2022
In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness his family announces the passing of Michael Allan (Mike) Carlson on June 28, 2022 due to heart failure. Michael was predeceased by his parents David & Grace (West) Carlson and his stepmother Marvel Carlson. He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara (nee Symes), daughter Sami (Mike), son Cole (Lisa) and five cherished grandchildren: Mason, Jaxon, Kaden, Journey & Meakin. Also, sadly missed by his siblings: Hilda (Jerry), Meakin (Ally), Patrick (Connie), nieces, nephews & lifelong friends.
Michael was born in Cardston, Alberta on March 7, 1948. He loved living on the farm and the rural life- working at the Carlson general store/gas station and hunting, fishing, and having his own trap line. At 10 years old, he got his first mink and sold it to buy a hunting knife, tent and for his mother, whom he loved dearly, a blouse. Michael left the farming community to move to Lethbridge, Alberta and carried out his school years there. After graduating, Michael was accepted into the forestry program at the University of Montana where he enjoyed completing a BSc in forestry and graduated in 1969. Shortly thereafter, Michael started working in the BC Forest Service. In the fall of 1971, he met his bride-to-be, Barbara. They started a family, having a daughter and a son. He continued his forestry career until his retirement in 2002.
Michael loved the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing, gardening, trapshooting, golfing, clocks and antiques. He so enjoyed his weekly coffee time with friends, sitting around the campfire sharing stories at Alexis Creek and making dinners for his family. Michael's wife, Barbara, was his world. He spent 50 beautiful years married to the love of his life. His children and grandchildren brought him so much happiness. He devoted his life to his wife, family and friends. He was a leader, a listener, kind and gentle. He was always the rock to lean on and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Michael's family would like to thank family and friends for their love and support. We also wish to thank the city of Williams Lake, everyone in the Forestry community, and Dr. Routtu (Williams Lake), and Dr. Wan & staff (Kelowna General Hospital) for their compassion in his care.
