Mary Price Barnett (Sanders), died peacefully in Vernon, BC on January 5, 2024 after a brief illness.
Born in Hollywood, California on July 30,1937, Mary grew up in McLean, Virginia with mother Lucille, father Tully, brother Peter and sister Victoria. After high school she attended Simmons College in Boston, MA, where she earned a degree in biology and met Cunliffe Barnett. They were married for 65 years.
Mary and Cunliffe raised three children - Duncan, Kevin, and Kym - living in Alberta, Ontario, and several communities in BC before settling in Williams Lake where they lived for more than 25 years.
Mary worked as a teacher and then as a school psychologist after studying for her master's degree at UBC. After retirement, Mary and Cunliffe lived on Saturna Island and near Lumby before settling in Coldstream in 2015, the final place Mary made home. Throughout it all Mary enjoyed their cabin retreat in New Denver and made many cherished friends.
Mary loved nature, creating one-of-a-kind nature inspired holiday cards for friends and family. She loved to swim and take walks, cross country skiing or snowshoeing in the winter. She enjoyed playing and teaching piano and she loved animals. Mary was an educator who cared deeply about the children she worked with.
Mary is greatly missed by
all those who knew and loved her.
A celebration in honour of Mary will be held at 2pm on May 11th at the Lumby Christian Church.
