October 9, 1951 - September 7, 2019
With great sadness, the family of Mary Louise Ashton, 67, announce her passing at Quesnel Hospice on September 7, 2019, after a short but brave battle with cancer.
Mary was born to William and Jean Stephenson in Victoria, Conception Bay Newfoundland on October 9, 1951. She was raised with her 3 sisters in Victoria Newfoundland. She and her sisters had a very busy childhood helping with chores on their large property, including caring for animals and gardening. The four sisters sang in their church choir and were part of girls social groups in their community. In 1968 Mary graduated from the Persalvic Regional High School in Victoria Newfoundland. From there she attended the stenography/shorthand typing class at the Vocational Trade School in Carbonear. She worked in St.John's Newfoundland before adventuring to Brampton Ontario in 1969 where she met her future husband Graham Ashton. Together, they traveled to BC and made the decision to settle down in Williams Lake. In 1975 they were married at The Saint Andrews United Church. Both of their children Jason and Aimie were born and raised in Williams Lake. The family of four spent most of their summer weekends camping and fishing at Quesnel Forks with family and friends. In 1980 Mary started her lifelong career as a payroll accountant and switchboard operator at Weldwood/West Fraser Mills. She retired from the company in 2014. She and Graham worked there together and formed many lifelong friendships with coworkers. Mary has a giving soul and loved hosting family meals where she could feed everyone. She enjoyed her hobbies of growing flower gardens and crocheting and loved gifting her craft to loved ones.
She is survived by her two children, Jason (Jamie) and Aimie (Dan), four grandchildren Viktoria, Davis, Katie and Landen, her 3 sisters, Rosalie (Tom), Donna (Perry), Shirley (Tony), her Father, many extended family members and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Graham and her mother.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Quesnel Hospice.
The Celebration Of Life for Mary is planned for Saturday November 16, 2019 at 11 am at the Longhouse in Williams Lake. Please come and share your memories.
