February 16, 1927 - August 6, 2021
Maria Gesina Angela Stroetmann, née Sextro, passed on to her next life on August 6th, 2021 at the age of 94. She was born in Papenburg, Germany on February 16, 1927. She emigrated to England in the early 1950s to become a midwife/nurse.
Following Mom's completion of her nursing studies, she moved first to Toronto and then to Vancouver, where she met her husband, Ludwig (Louie) Stroetmann in 1957, where they were both members of the Holy Family Catholic Church choir. They had three daughters whom Mom loved deeply and supported tremendously. In 1971, the Stroetmann family moved to Williams Lake. Later Maria and Louie moved to Rose Lake and then to Chase. When Louie passed away in 2007, Maria moved to Abbotsford. Recently she returned to Williams Lake.
Maria was feisty, stubborn, courageous, endlessly curious, mischievously humourous and bright. She was very devoted to her Catholic faith. She enjoyed singing, reading and card games. She was active, walking daily and was still doing sit ups and pushups well into her 80's!
Maria was predeceased by her husband, Ludwig Stroetmann, and her siblings Gerd, Margaret, Fritz, and Angela.
Maria will be missed by her three daughters and their partners: Marlene Funk (Tony), Anita Davidson (Brian) and Janet Stroetmann.
Her grandchildren will miss her too: Isla Funk, Ethan Funk, Noel Funk, Eric Davidson and Emma Davidson. Her nieces and nephews in Germany will also miss their Tante Mia.
Our family wishes to thank the nurses, care aides and doctors of the Williams Lake Seniors' Village for their respectful and kind care of our mother.
