1925 ~ 2017

Margaret passed away at Deni House in the early hours of January 4, 2017. Born in Kalmar, Sweden, on December 7, 1925, she came to Canada at an early age with her parents, George and Mabel Carlson and younger brother, Leonard. A sister, Ina (Boxeur) was born in Wells, BC where the family lived while George worked underground in a mine. The family moved to Vancouver where Margaret graduated from High School and went on to Normal School to obtain her Teaching Certificate. She ventured north to teach at the small school of Forest Grove where she met her future husband, Garth Lloyd. Married in Windermere, in 1946, their first child, Jack, was born there. The newlyweds spent a brief time in Wells, going on to settle in Williams Lake in 1948 where three more children were born.

Margaret still found time to be active in the community. She was on the Minor Hockey Executive in the 1960’s and also a founding member of the Princess Pine Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Being a dedicated volunteer she spent countless hours doing cancer dressings with other Eastern Star members.

A devoted mother, Margaret loved to have the family come together for Sunday dinners. As a passionate gardener, she grew beautiful flowers and abundant vegetables which she loved to share with friends and family.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband Garth, her parents, George and Mabel Carlson, brother Leonard and daughter-in-law, Cheryl. She is survived by her sister Ina Boxeur and her children, Jack, Bill (Lesley), Terry (Pat) and Sandra (Roger) as well as nine grandchildren and eight grandchildren.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the staff at Deni House where Margaret enjoyed compassionate and loving care during her final years.

There will be a celebration of life for Margaret at a later date.

Donations in Margaret’s memory can be made to the Cariboo Memorial Hospital Foundation.
