Kenneth V. Thompson

December 8, 2003

Kenneth V. Thompson passed away December 8, 2003 at Kamloops Royal Inland Hospital from complications resulting from a stroke following surgery.

He was born on March 8, 1927 in Grand River, Iowa and had one older sister Norma.

He was raised in Caldwell, Idaho and graduated early from high school to join the navy.

He never saw action and following his discharge, he worked in construction all over the U.S. with the company Morrison Knutson.

He cattle ranched in central Montana for several years and in 1964 met and married his wife Pia in San Francisco.

The family began to grow in 1965 with the birth of son Harvey and the family moved to Weiser, Idaho for more farming and the arrival of daughter Arlene in 1967.

In 1968 Kenny took the family to Canada on vacation and in 1969 moved the family to Williams Lake. Third child Dwight was born in 1970.

Kenny worked as a heavy duty mechanic at local sawmills and also worked a lot in remote construction camps up north.

He worked two years on the Alaska pipeline in the mid 1970s.

Kenny also tried his hand in the trucking business for a while and in 1981 went to work for Gibraltar Mines where he worked until he retired in 1991.

Kenny was able to enjoy 12 years of retirement. Some winters were spent in Arizona with Pia and the “girls,” his devoted Chihuahuas.

He enjoyed fishing and loved hunting in the fall for moose, deer and elk with family and friends.

Some of the fondest memories are from those trips.

Every bit the cowboy, Kenny was synonymous with his boots, cowboy hat and massive belt buckle.

He was a devoted husband, loving father and a hard worker with a big heart who made many friends throughout his life and will be sadly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

The funeral service will be held today, Tuesday, December 16 at the Compassionate Care Funeral Home at 1 p.m. with refreshments to follow.
