August 18, 1925 - April 2, 2019
Our beloved Kay Gillis passed away peacefully on April 2, 2019 at the age of 93. Kay was born on August 18, 1925 in Macklin, Saskatchewan. In her late teens, she decided to head west to experience city life in Vancouver, where she met and married her husband, Larry. In 1957, they moved to Williams Lake with their 1-year-old son, Gary. Over the next 62 years, Kay became a familiar face within the community. She had an endearing personality; her kind, generous and loving soul touched the lives of many.

Kay had many passions in life, including her family and friends, gardening, baking, walking, and being an active member of the Sacred Heart Church and Catholic Women's League.

She had one of the best flowers and vegetable gardens in town and won several "Communities in Bloom" awards. She was also proud to receive many fall fair ribbons for her baking. She often dropped off delicious treats at the city lunch room and her usual shops around town "just because". She was also known to negotiate the exchange of baked goods for newspaper clippings so she could keep her friends and relatives up to date on articles written about her family.

Kay walked everywhere - to the hair salon, shops, grocery store, you name it. Many thanks to all the kind citizens who stopped to offer her a ride while walking home with bags in hand from her trip. Sometimes she took the ride, sometimes she just wanted to walk but always appreciated the offer.

Last but certainly not least, the Sacred Heart Catholic Church was a constant presence and a pillar in Kay's life. She felt blessed to have such a wonderful faith community.

Kay is survived by her son Gary (Jeanine), sisters Eleanor, Laura and Carol, grandchildren Denise (Mark), Trevor (Kori), Brittany (Scot) and Mitch (Krystal), great grandchildren Hannah, Reece, Bayne, Ari, Dora, Nia and Etta, and godchildren Calvin and Cory.

She was predeceased by husband Larry, parents John Boser Sr. and Marianna, brothers John Jr., Tony, Zack, Simon, Leo and Joe, and sisters Gertrude, Anna and Monica.

Funeral mass to be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 25th at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a reception to follow.
