In loving memory ~

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Judith Marie Jenkins (nee Duffey) wishes to announce her passing at age 79. Judy was born in Big Timber, Montana. She graduated from the University of Montana's school of Journalism, where she met and married Barry Jenkins. They eventually moved to Victoria, then Kamloops and finally settled in Williams Lake where she lived for 53 years.

Judy is predeceased by her eldest son Todd, mother and father, Margaret and Frank Duffey, and Brother Ron.

Judy is survived by her loving husband Barry, sons Cory and Leigh, daughter-in-law Cheron, and grandson Anthony.

Her chosen vocation was as a journalist, writer and photographer. Judy worked for newspapers in Minnesota, Montana and was an editor for "Women's Pages" Victoria Columnist before working for the Williams Lake Tribune, Laketown News and Advisor. In addition, Judy contributed extensive writings to forestry trade magazines. There were breaks in her writing career as she raised 3 sons. She also became interested in youth programs during this time. She learned to swim in her 30s and became a certified swim coach with the Blue Fins Club. She volunteered for the Boys and Girls Club and sat on the board.

An avid big game and bird hunter, Judy was a competitive trap shooter and President of the Rod and Gun Club. When her sons were grown, she became a certified forest fire lookout. This led to teaching forest service employees firearms defense from predators. Upon Judy's retirement, she rode her motorcycle to Alaska and toured Australia by Desert Coach. Judy had a fondness for sports cars. She owned a 1967 Fiat Spyder for a while. Her last sports-car was a Mazda Miata. Judy filled her day in retirement with reading, trips to the cabin in the west Chilcotin, fishing, Tai Chi, and participating in Citizens on Patrol. During her "retirement" she became a marriage commissioner and married many couples. Above all things, the most important aspect of Judy's life was her love for animals, of people and community.

We wish to thank the staff at Williams Lake Seniors Village for their devotion to caring for her during her final few years, and to her many friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Williams Lake Boys and Girls Club.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life for spring 2025. Details to be announced.
