Joyce Oxnard

Joyce L. Oxnard passed away peacefully at Cariboo Memorial Hospital May 29, 2002 after a brief illness.


She was born November 18, 1917 in Cypress River, Manitoba, the eldest of five children born to William and Edna Young.


Joyce married Edwin Oxnard October 18, 1939. In 1942 the family moved to B.C. where Edwin worked as a fireman and machinist for B.C. Rail for a number of years, a job which took the family to a number of communities up and down the line.


In 1958 the family settled in Williams Lake where Edwin worked for Shell Oil for a while. The couple then bought and ran the Chilcotin Market for a number of years before retiring to Vernon.


Joyce was also a past matron of the Princess Pine Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Williams Lake.


Joyce is predeceased by her husband, Edwin, son Danny, brother Lex, and sister Opal Downton, as well as her parents.


She is survived by her daughters Pennie (Bill) Hall of Chesapeake, Virginia; Marlene (Gord) Anderson of Williams Lake; and daughter-in-law Darlene (Danny) Oxnard of Vernon; sister Iris Storie of Brandon, Manitoba, and brother Keith Young of Drayton Valley, Alberta.


Joyce also leaves seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.


Interment will be held in Vernon at a later date.


Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association in Joyce’s name.


Joyce will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She was a grand and beautiful lady who touched the lives of everyone she met.
