In loving memory ~
The greatest testament to a person's life is the love given and shared in one's community of family and friends. Jimmie's devotion to his wife Bernadette and his daughter Sheri and son Mike enriched them and all who knew him. Over the years Jimmie rejoiced as his family grew. This began with his daughter-in-law Lori. Jimmie was a devoted, hands-on grandfather to Brad, Nathan, Samantha, Olivia and Amy. Then followed his grandchildren's partners: Jenny, Maddie, Jack, Kolby and Mark, and Sheri's husband Shane. Jimmie welcomed each great grandchild Nevaeh, Elsie and Reggie and Skylar, Sawyer and Finley, Danni, Tate, Rhett. Jimmie welcomed Bernadette's daughter Nickie and her two granddaughters, Jaime and Samantha into their family.
Jimmie was also deeply loved by his many Rymer and Johnston nieces and nephews, his Dumas in-laws and the many friends who travelled with him for part or all of his life journey and who witnessed the fundamental truth of what it means to be human; to love and be loved, respected and honoured unconditionally.
Jimmie's support of Sheri and Mike and their families, demonstrated how to excel in life's most important and honored role, parenting his children. He appreciated the simplicity of common sense and patience, blended with fun stories and jokes. Jimmie delighted in a good recipe and its successful results, particularly roast dinners and banana bread.
Jimmie met his soul mate, Bernadette in 1993 and they were blessed with 28 years of joyful companionship. After 40 years as an Electrician, he retired and he and Bernadette headed for the hills and all adventures which lay beyond them, in the vastness of rural Canada.
Jimmie's life was defined by his love of nature: Indoors he loved a good Western and books about nature's abundance. Outdoors drew him to fishing and gold panning, roaming and exploring in the outback wherever he lived, beginning in Maillardville then to Surrey, 100 Mile House, Northern BC, Ashcroft and especially in the outback of his cowboy's stomping grounds, in Williams Lake. Jim's 'happy place'.
Jimmie was transported by his love of Blue's Grass Country music, and his fantastic guitar plucking soul showed how deeply connected Jimmie was to the land and all creatures inhabiting it. He believed that there was no higher peace on earth than to be deeply connected to his family, the land and every living creature on it. He openly shared his love of nature and in doing so, helped many people put their life's journey into perspective for them.
Jimmie is reunited with his parents Andrew and Gloria, his brother George and his sisters Jean Venos, Tootie Schisler and Dorothy Johnston. He will be deeply loved and forever missed by his family and friends, near and far.
We will celebrate Jimmie's life everyday.
A community Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 11th in Williams Lake.
