Inez Greenwood

January 4, 2003

It is with profound sadness that the family of Inez Greenwood (nee Humphrey) announces her passing in her 103rd year.

Inez was born November 23, 1900 in Whitstable, County Kent, England and passed away January 4, 2004 in Kelowna.

Inez was predeceased by her husband George in 1967.

She immigrated to Canada with her parents and siblings in 1911 and homesteaded on the prairies.

She excelled in school and went on to graduate from Newtana College for Teachers in 1918 and was presented with the Governor General’s Award for excellence in achievement.

Following her graduation she worked in one-room schoolhouses throughout Saskatchewan.

She married George in 1928 and as was the requirement of the day she left her teaching position to have a family.

The family lived throughout northern Saskatchewan following George’s various postings as a station master for the CPR.

Inez loved to travel and her adventures took her all over the world with her last trip at the ripe age of 89.

She was a life-long learner, voracious reader and wonderful and loving role model to her children and grandchildren.

The family, who are all richer for having had her in their lives, will miss her and her irreverent sense of humour.

She is survived by her children, daughters Marjorie (Gordon) Braund, Betty (Tom) Bailey and sons Jim (Dorothy) Greenwood, Bob (Peg) Greenwood and Geoff (Judy) Greenwood.

As well she is survived by 13 grandchildren, 13-great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, numerous other family members and friends throughout Canada, the U.S. and England.

A memorial service was held on January 10 in Kelowna.
