The family of Hugh regrets to announce his passing at Cariboo Memorial Hospital.

Hugh was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England and immigrated to the Onward Ranch near Williams Lake in 1960 with his wife Pam and children, Peter and Philippa. The family grew to include Andrew and Stephen while living and working at the Onward Ranch. Hugh continued to live in the 150 Mile House and Miocene areas for the remainder of his life.

Hugh worked for Indian Affairs, Cariboo College and ARDSA before returning to Cariboo College until his retirement. Hugh’s biggest passion in life was beekeeping. He owned and operated 147 Mile Apiaries for many years. In addition, alongside his wife Pam, they operated Bunting Creek Ranch.

Hugh is survived by his wife Pam, children Peter (Jean), Philippa, Andrew (Wendy), Stephen (Karen), 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and brother Raymond of Newcastle Upon Tyne, England.

A celebration of life will held at the Miocene Community Hall July 9th at 1:00pm. Those wishing to make a donation in lieu of flowers in memory of Hugh are invited to donate to the BHW Trust’s bursary fund of BC Honey Producers’ Association, c/o Brenda Jager, Treasurer/Secretary, 948 Harrison Way, Gabriola, BC. V0R 1X2. As a former trustee of this trust, Hugh would have understood the importance of educational support in the field of apiculture.

Thank you to the Miocene Fire Department, WL Paramedics and the doctors, nurses and staff at the Cariboo Memorial Hospital for all their care and attention.
