Gwendolyne Upton

October 31, 2003

Gwendolyne Norma Upton passed away October 31, 2003 in Vancouver.

She was born and resided most of her life in Vancouver, but through her son, John Upton and her daughter, Donna Ford, she had wonderful friends and memories of the Cariboo.

In the mid-1970s she moved to Williams Lake to support her husband and son with Rodger’s Village Green Restaurant at the golf course.

It was during this time, also, that she took a position with the department of youth employment.

She later went on to work as supervisor at apprenticeship and trades in Vancouver, until her retirement in 1989. Gwen thrived with this position and contributed greatly to the lives of scores of people.

Her great sense of humour and spirited family values are a wonderful legacy for her family.

In the late 1990s Gwen was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and that sadly took control of her life.

Gwen was predeceased by her sons Richard in 1951 and Michael in 1970.

She leaves to mourn her husband of 60 years, Cliffe, her children Donna (Dick) Ford, Susan, Rodger (Hilary Percy), John, and Glen Upton as well as 19 grandchildren.

A celebration of Gwen’s life was held November 6, 2003 at St. Philips Anglican Church, in Vancouver, where she was christened, married and raised her children.
