We are sad to announce the passing of Gwen Cyr leaving behind her three sons Justin (Helen), Cody, Perry (Lisah). Her grandchildren Cruize, Mariah, Dalton and Austin.
Gwen was predeceased by her loving parents Bill and Mary.
Gwen was well known for her endless work and passion for the Williams Lake Indoor Rodeo. For many years she was a contestant, volunteer and a leader to ensure it was a success.
She became involved in 1969 beginning with the rodeo in Riske Creek. Gwen's skills and work ethic played a crucial role in the growth of the Indoor rodeo, going from limited attendance to being sold out every year.
She fondly remembered her first rodeo where she took the contestant registrations working out of a motor home at the Williams Lake Stampede grounds. The following year the event moved into the hockey arena where it remained and continued to grow.
Gwen played a main role in implementing the beer garden which provided funding to keep the rodeo alive and was a popular addition to the event.
In 2015 Gwen celebrated 25 years volunteering with the Rodeo Association. Gwen organized the opening act for the last 8 years of her volunteer work and sang at her retirement event. She loved the barn dance and in her words "would dance the night away".
Gwen's musical abilities provided entertainment for many over the years. She was active and would work beside any man if they could keep up to her. Her love of pickleball and competitive nature remained a passion in her life. Her Kelowna pickleball group will miss her enthusiasm and time together. Gwen was forever grateful for her many treasured friendships and especially those she called her sisters.
Gwen faced cancer as she lived life, fearless and with dignity. We'd like to thank the Kelowna Hospice House for their kindness and unlimited support.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
Gwen spent many years mentoring others and requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Williams Lake - bbbswl.fundraiser@gmail.com
