On April 7, Gilbert Walters saddled up and headed for greener pastures. Gilbert’s family and friends will surely miss his smile, his company, his conversation and all the best features that accompany a true Cariboo gentleman.

Raised on a Horsefly ranch, Gilbert grew up loving the land and the simple rewards a hard-working lifestyle provides. Over the years, he operated Cat, hauled lumber and ran a fleet of log trucks. He hauled logs until he was “a little over 60”.

Throughout his life, Gilbert’s biggest passion was ranching. He was justifiably proud of purchasing the original Walters’ homestead and building it into a successful cow-calf operation. If Gilbert had a hobby, it was horses – riding for pleasure and raising paint ponies. In 2012, Gilbert was inducted into the BC Cowboy Hall of Fame.

Gilbert was predeceased by his wife, Anne. He is survived by five children, plus grand children and great-grandchildren.

We will remember and celebrate Gilbert’s life on Sunday May 1, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Horsefly Community Hall.

Everyone is welcome.

Donations can be made in memory of Gilbert to Parkinson Canada or the Horsefly 4-H Club.
