It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, Uncle, Great-Uncle and friend, George J. Hennessy on October 23rd, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on January 13th, 1918 on his parents’ farm in Cleveland, Saskatchewan. There he went to school to grade eight and then helped with the family farm until he was called into service in 1941 as Lance Corporal in the R.C.A.M.C. George’s career path after W.W.II went in many directions, starting with working on the farm he inherited in Cleveland, south west of Battleford, Saskatchewan. He was never afraid to take on any and all challenges; to mention a few, nursing orderly, machinist and postal worker. He then moved his family to Williams Lake, B.C. in 1959 and this opened up a whole new adventure for them.

George loved to hunt, fish, work with wood, dance and be with his family at gatherings. He also was a loyal long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion as well as a willing volunteer with many organizations.

He was predeceased by his wife, Grace; first wife, Atlas; son-in-law, Lee Phillips; as well as three older sisters. George is survived by his daughter, Doreen Phillips of Calgary; his son, Wilfred (Lorna) Hennessy of Edmonton; his step-sons, Randy (Heather) Pokeda of Williams Lake and Fred Pokeda of Abbotsford as well as his grandchildren: Corey (Debbie) Phillips, Crystal Phillips, Glenn Hennessy, Kathy (Steve) Kidd, Michael Pokeda, Alan (Rochelle) Pokeda, Crystal Thomas (Brad Thompson), Scott (Kim) Lothrop, Joe Lothrop, and Christine Brown; numerous great-grandchildren and a large extended family. They will all miss his wisdom, wit, and his loving smile.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Falkland Community Church on Saturday, October 29th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vernon Royal Canadian Legion.
