Eva - and Eve to many - finished her earthly journey in a peaceful sleep - holding hands with her children Mary-Jeanne and Peter - to rejoin her husband George and those who have gone before her, to begin her new life in heaven.
Eva was amazing in all her roles: in the family she was Mom, daughter, sister, Auntie, wife, cousin, Oma, Great-Oma, and beyond the family she was Nurse, friend, colleague, humanitarian, hiker, dog-person, musician, and singer.
From Eva's own words:
"I enjoy hearing peoples' histories, so here's a little of mine.
I was born in a horse's stable in Saskatchewan on our farm, not too far from the beautiful salty waters of Lake Manitou.
My parents had escaped from what was then Russia - and is now the Ukraine - in 1929.
We moved to Chilliwack in 1952 and I graduated high school there, Bible School and then Nurses' training at St. Paul's in Vancouver. I arrived in Williams Lake with a classmate in the fall of 1962, to begin work at the brand-new Cariboo Memorial Hospital, where I worked hard for 1 year to save enough money to begin a 1 year hitch-hiking adventure around the world. I have marvelous memories from that trip! At the end of the year I came back to Williams Lake, and worked at CMH for more than 40 years, helping deliver babies for 2 generations of families."
Eva loved the Terra Ridge community, her home for 15 years after moving from the family property overlooking Chimney Valley. She will be greatly missed by so many.
The family would like to thank the medical community of Williams Lake, who took care of Eva as "one of their own", and extended the caring and compassion to our entire family. We cannot thank you enough. Heartfelt thanks go to Dr. Glenn Fedor, the staff of Home & Community Care, and the entire staff of Deni House. To Mom's friends, co-workers and church family, your support is so humbling, and exemplifies the reflection of Mom's life lived well.
The family will be having a Memorial Service/Celebration of Life for Eva in early September, and will be announced later this summer, at which time family and friends can gather to pay respects and honour Eva.
