April 15, 1944 - March 18, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ernie on March 18, 2021. Ernie was born in Brighton, England to Bridget (Harrington) and Ernest Brown and came to Canada with his mother, older sister and twin brother when he was only 6 months old.
His dad, who was serving in the Canadian military during the war, returned to Canada to join his family at the end of the war.
Ernie grew up in Victoria and in 1965 he married Madeleine Coupe. When Ernie was 17 years of age he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served for 31 years on bases across Canada and in Germany. Upon retiring from the forces in 1991, they moved to the Rose Lake area where they built a beautiful log home.
Ernie very much enjoyed outdoor activities. Hunting, fishing and camping in remote areas were some of his favourite pastimes. He also enjoyed woodworking, working on vehicles, gardening, and maintaining their home and property. Ernie was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends and the community. He was well known by family and friends for his own unique sense of humour.
Ernie is survived by Madeleine, his loving wife of 56 years, daughters Diane Baer and Paulette Brown, and grandsons Nicholas and Eric Baer. He is also survived by his sister Annabelle Trask, and brothers John (Lynda), Patrick (Jane), Les (Shirley), and Michael (Margot) and many nieces and nephews.
Donations may be made in memory of Ernie to the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Due to Covid 19 restrictions a Funeral Mass was held with only local family attending on March 31, 2021 at Sacred Heart Church in Williams Lake.
