In loving memory ~
Mom passed away peacefully at home with family by her side following an extended battle with cancer which she fought with amazing courage, dignity, and grace.
Born in Nelson, BC Elaine moved to the Enderby area in 1958 to begin teaching in a one-room schoolhouse at the young age of 18. There she met and married her first husband David with whom she had her only son Dan. The family later moved to the 100 Mile House area in 1969 where Elaine taught school specializing in remedial reading. She was a very dedicated educator spending several summers attending UBC obtaining her Masters Degree in Special Education.
In 1984 Elaine met the love of her life Rolf whom she married in May of 1985. Elaine retired from teaching in 1994 to spend more time with Rolf. They spent the next few years traveling the world and exploring Canada in the Westfalia van. Unfortunately, Elaine lost Rolf in April of 2007.
In 2012 Elaine made the decision to relocate to Salmon Arm where she absolutely thrived, meeting many new friends through her hospice work Stridors Club, Probus, books clubs, and many other volunteer works. She was vivacious ad energetic never being afraid to try new things including a drumming circle and a tap class!
Extra special to her was her Friday Happy Hour group. They were definitely her extended family here in Salmon Arm.
Elaine leaves behind her son Dan (Barb), stepchildren Glen (Lisa), Heide (Konrad), Sally (Stuart), grandchildren Matthew, Renae, Mandy, Koa, Travis and Sammy, great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Seth, Emma, Travis, Leland, Gabrielle and Boston. Sisters Ruth (Jack), Ilean (Sheldon), and brother Bill (Betty) as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date at her favourite place on Canim Lake.
There is an irreplaceable void in our hearts today, there are no words to express how much she will be missed but we take solace in the legacy of her beautiful, extended family who thrive today because of her influence and love.
Memorial donations can be made in Elaine's name to the Shuswap Hospice Society.
