We are very sad to announce the passing of our brother, uncle and friend, Don Buchanan. Don was predeceased by his father, Harry Buchanan, in 2003, and his mother, Peggy Buchanan, in 2016. He is survived by his brother Doug Buchanan (Linda), sister Gail Stanchfield (Don), sister Jill Buchanan, nieces Jody Buchanan and Regan Stanchfield, nephews Ben Stanchfield, Eric Simmons (Megan), and Wade Simmons (Kelly). He also had grand-nieces and nephews Brendan Buchanan Dee, Emma and Joe Stanchfield, Alannah and Tessa Logan, and Taylor, Mason, Jack and Nate Simmons, who he was very proud of. He was affectionately known as UD to all of the kids. Don is also survived by his oldest and best buddies Jim Latin, Richard Pinette, Dianne and Rusty Rustemeyer, who were with him til the end.
The Buchanan family arrived in Williams Lake in February 1957 when Harry was transferred with BC Equipment. Other than a few university years Don was a lifelong Williams Laker. Many remember him as an accountant, others remember him as a contributor to the community through the Lions Club, the Williams Lake Golf Club, and Treasurer of the Stampeders hockey team, to name a few. Still others remember him through hockey, golf, curling, bowling, baseball, and game playing. Last, and certainly not least, Don loved a good party and having fun. Even when his health was failing his quick wit and sense of humour stayed with him to the end. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
We would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Cariboo Place who took care of Don with kindness and compassion.
