Formerly of Squamish and Tyee Lake (Williams Lake), Don, aka DAD, POP, GRANDPA AND D.R.B passed away peacefully with family by his side in Burnaby General Hospital.
Predeceased by his loving wife Jeanne (September 1, 1981) and his oldest daughter Lynn (February 21, 2008), brothers George “Bud”, Bill & Fred.
Survived by boys: Ron (Lynn); Rick (Julie) & Reg (Babeta); girls: Pat (Bill); Leeanne (Bob); Diane (Larry) & Sandy (Rich). Grandchildren: Tony & Danny; Michelle, Cheryl & Leanne; Donny & Amanda;
Tanya & Chris; April & Clarissa; Joe & Meghan.
Fifteen great-grandchildren, many nieces
& nephews and many great friends & acquaintances made throughout his life.
Born in Winnipeg in 1925, Dad grew up on a farm in Manitoba with his three brothers. When he was 17, Don enlisted in the Navy. Where he met his future wife Jeanne who was a Wren. After oldest son Rick was born, the couple moved to White Rock, where second son Terry “Reg” was born at home. Moving to Wells, Don worked in the mines until 1953, daughters Lynn & Pat were born there. A change of work drew them to Ontario for a short stint, and returning to Vancouver, BC after surviving “Hurricane Hazel” in 1954, daughters Leeanne, Diane and Sandy were born. After spending many years, driving truck for Sunbeam Bread,
Dad returned to his passion of carpentry
which continued until his retirement.
No service by request. A special family gathering
will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Don’s name to a charity of your choice.
Don was very supportive of various charitable organizations but his favourites were:
the Salvation Army, the MS Society
and the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
