Dick Threlkeld

February 15, 2004

A celebration of life was held for Dick Threlkeld at the 108 Community Hall on February 15, 2004.

Dick was born on a ranch at Deadman Creek near Savona on June 3, 1923. He died January 30, 2004.

Dick leaves his loving wife Eunice of 40 years, son Ernie, daughter Shirley, step-son Pete (Linda), nieces Diane (Darryl), Tracey, grandchildren and extended family.

He learned to shoe horses at the age of 13, then worked many ranches in Kamloops area including 14 years at the Tranquille Farm.

He retired to 108 in 1981.

His main hobbies were cow penning and playing the banjo with his wife Eunice.

He toured all over the west for the last nine years with local entertainer Frank Gleeson from Williams Lake to Peace River, to Maple Creek, Saskatchewan.

He could play almost anything -- banjo, mandolin, guitar, piano, and fiddle.

He played at many venues in Williams Lake including the Cowboy Poetry Concert at Stampede in Williams Lake last year.

He taught Eunice to play the banjo. They were a great pair to travel with Gleeson said.

Dick’s greatest love was horses, cattle and entertaining.

He will be sadly missed at gatherings and concerts throughout the whole area. Dick was inducted into the cowboy hall of fame in 2002.

Gleeson penned a poem as a final tribute to his old friend Dick.
